The Society announces the publication of its new book, "Shadows Illuminated: Women In A Rural Culture." Written by local authors Terry Jaakkola and Julia Lambert Frericks, the book tells the often untold stories of the women, both the famous and the not so famous, who came to central Minnesota. Topics covered in the book include settlement, chores, childbirth, family life, socializing, education, women's rights, employment, and prominent women such as Jane Grey Swisshelm and the Benedictine nuns. The book chronicles events from 1850 through 1988.
