Wooden shoes. c. 1860. Many nineteenth-century Stearns County farmers wore wooden shoes inside barns to prevent ruining their leather footwear on the muddy, acidic floors. Wooden shoes also protected their feet when they were stepped on by a cow during milking. L. 1'2", W. 5-1/2".

Cow and livestock insecticide sprayer. c. 1930. Insects were a bane to dairymen because they irritated cows and spread disease. H. 8", L. 10'4".

Hudson ceramic salt bowl. c. 1880. Salt was given to cows as a mineral supplement. D. 8", H. 5".

Calf weaners. c. 1900-1920. Many types of devices were used by farmers to keep calves away from their mothers during weaning time. Left: L. 7"; Right: L. 3-1/2".
