Wooden butter bowl with paddle. c. 1880-1920. After butter was removed from the churn, it was worked in a wooden bowl with paddles such as these to remove excess moisture and work in salt. Bowl H. 2-1/4", D. 10-1/2".

Hansen's Brand butter color. 1920. Both commercial and home butter makers added artificial color to give butter its distinctive yellow. the natural color of butter varied according to cow breed, season, and type of feed. H. 10-5/8", W. 5".
